The Scalextric
Model: The Scalextric model,
Exclusively produced by Scalextric. Scalextric first
made the Ford Escort in 1970 and issued six liveries
which, even today, are very desirable cars for the rally
enthusiast. The all-new Scalextric car improves upon
the original model design in all area – detail, interior
fittings, body shape, livery decoration and stunning
performance. The car is fitted with the super fast in-line
FF motor. A standard Scalextric Ford Escort also won
the Brooklands Test Hill Challenge in August 2009.
History: 1972
Safari Rally Winner, Driver: Hannu Mikkola, Mikkola's
rally career spanned 31 years. His most successful period
was during the 1970s and 1980s. The 1970s saw Mikkola
a frontrunner in many international events, usually
in a Ford Escort.

Towards the end of the Group B era
of Rallycross, the duels between Martin, the duels between Martin Schanche (Metro
6R4) and Will Gollop (Ford RS200) passed into motorsport
legend. Two of the closest fought seasons in the
European RallycrosssChampionship produced a title apiece
for the pair; NorwegianChampionship produced a title apiece
for the pair; Norwegian Schanche winning through in 1991
when Gollop’s challenge was ended by huge crash in the
penultimate event. Schanche later described the ’91
title as the ‘hardest won’ of his six championships.
The following year Gollop turned the tables on “Mr
Rallycross”, but again there was great drama;”, but again there was great drama; Schanche
receiving a two-race ban after stopping the Finnish
round of the championship by standing in the track.
Schanche then put substitute drivers in his Ford RS200
in a bid to take points from Gollop and the battle raged
on when Schanche returned in the Summer. When Gollop
finally put his name to the crown, the Englishman had
the added satisfaction of doing so in Schanche’s ‘back
yard’ in Norway.
For many fans, the Group B era –
1987 to 1992 – remains the golden period in the history
of the European RallycrosssChampionship andChampionship and
Gollop-Schanche the most compelling rivalry.

History
- In 2011, Jari-Matti Latvala confirmed the potential he
showed in 2010. His 4th place in the driver’s
championship didn’t do justice to his form. He took his
role as number two in the team with dignity and
professionalism as he helped Hirvonen in the title fight
with Loeb. Hirvonen wasn’t really a threat to Loeb,
while Latvala shined in the 2011 season, even on tarmac,
which he doesn’t like nearly as much as gravel. Ford
took quite a bit of time before deciding to continue
with M-Sport in the World Rally Championship alongside
2003 WRC champion, Petter Solberg.

Championship was the Rally D'Italia on the island of
Sardinia. Dani Sordo and co-driver Carlos del Barrio
claimed a well-deserved sixth place in their Mini. Sordo
made his first appearance in the WRC in the 2003 Rally
Catalunya.
