The notorious Nürburgring was the setting for round 7 of
the 1969 Formula 1 season. Graham Hill and his Lotus 49 had a disappointing
start to the season before arriving for round 7 and after struggling in
qualifying, he managed to take his Lotus to 9th position on the grid.
Eventually though, due to a series of crashes and retirements for Vic
Elford, Piers Courage, Jochen Rindt and Denny Hulme (who all started ahead
of him), Hill managed to finish the race in 4th position, 4 minutes behind
race winner Jacky Ickx.
